Stephen Chapple and Jennifer Chapple: Mother was attacked to death upstairs while children slept upstairs.

Jennifer Chapple (33), died of multiple stabbing wounds

According to police, a mother was attacked and killed in her own home while her two children were upstairs.

Stephen Chapple and Jennifer Chapple were also found dead at their home in Dragon Rise, Norton Fitzwarren on Sunday night.

They were both six years and five respectively, and their children are safe and well taken care of by relatives.

On suspicion of murder, two men aged 67 and 34 were taken into custody. Under investigation, the older man was released.

Magistrates extended the custody time limit for the younger man.

An examination post mortem confirmed that Mrs Chapple had suffered multiple stabbing wounds.

Investigating the cause of Mr Chappleā€™s death is ongoing.

Det. Insp Neil Meade from Avon and Somerset Police stated: “Whatever happened to Stephen and Jennifer, it is heartbreaking and I can only imagine the effect their deaths will have upon their two children.

“This tragic event has stunned the community.”

The property was inspected by officers at 21:45 GMT. As officers examine the properties, Cordons will remain in two of them.

After the death of their loved one, many tributes were sent to them.

Chapple was 36 years old and worked for West Somerset College. Gregg Mockridge (headteacher) said that Chapple will be “sadly missed”.

He said, “Steve was a wonderful colleague at West Somerset College. A brilliant teacher who cared deeply about his students.”

Mrs Chapple (33 years old) worked at a coffee shop in a village garden center. Staff said that they were devastated by the death of “much-loved friends”.

Rebecca Pow from Taunton, a Taunton MP said the news was “absolutely devastating and shocking”.

“It is a very tight knit community. It’s really tragic news. It would have shaken their foundations, I am sure.
