Yasmin Evans will leave BBC Radio 1Xtra Christmas Eve

Yasmin Evans will be leaving BBC Radio 1Xtra following nine years.

She stated, “It’s sad I am leaving but I would rather leave with only positive vibes and excitement for the future.”

Remi Burgz will take over the hosting duties of the new weekday program on the network. Yasmin was last on Friday, 24 December.

The 31-year old added, “It has been an amazing journey for me both as an individual as well as as a broadcaster.”

Faron McKenzie Head of BBC Radio 1Xtra, stated: “Yasmin’s part of 1Xtra s legacy.”

He said, “She is an iconic broadcaster and friend, from her Christmas Jingles to the numerous interviews she’s presented over the years.

Yasmin was first introduced to the station on Sunday mornings in 2012, as Weekend Breakfast’s host.

OneXtra hosts many shows and She has interviewed celebrities like Jamie Foxx, Michael B Jordan and others.

1Xtra is her second home, she described it as “second home” and said she was grateful to BBC “for giving me the chance to learn my craft and literally grow up on-air”.

She also said: “Thanks for being along for this ride, especially over the last 2 years when I realized how vital the relationship with our amazing audience is.”

Remi Burgz said that Yasmin Evans’ weekday slot was an “honour”

Faron McKenzie said, “Remi built a great relationship with our listeners within a relatively short period of time. She has also proven that she is an outstanding broadcaster.”

“Her positive, uplifting and infectious energy combined with her passion for music and culture will bring something new to the table,” he said.
